Tribute from Rob Leiper, an old friend

IDEAS, MAN (1967)

[for M.C.]

We would eat at the Taj.

Exotic – for then; for me, then.

You too – exotic:

For all that you knew, even then;

For all that you then made new.

Crossing borders

Translating

Which would become your living

Until you crossed that border too.

We were just rich enough

To cough up for a cheap curry

And a stack of cheap talk,

Leaving me richer

Then – and for the rest of my life.
